Deployment Protocol

What You Need to Run HyperDeck Dashboard

Option 1: MAMP on macOS

Recommended for a straightforward local installation.

  • Supported macOS computer and current MAMP
  • Apache enabled; PHP 8.4.1 recommended for the current release
  • Dashboard files in MAMP's document root
  • Ethernet connectivity to each HyperDeck
  • Current desktop browser and local firewall permissions
  • Host powered on while Dashboard or scheduler is used
/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/hyperdeck-dashboard/http://localhost:8888/hyperdeck-dashboard/The exact port can vary with MAMP configuration.

Option 2: MAMP on Windows

Supported Windows computer and current MAMP for Windows.

  • Apache enabled and compatible PHP version
  • PHP 8.4.1 recommended when available
  • Project placed in the document root shown by MAMP
  • Ethernet connectivity and firewall access
  • Modern browser
  • Host running during scheduled operations
Use the document root shown by the current MAMP installation rather than assuming a fixed Windows path.

Option 3: Existing or Hosted Server

Apache or another compatible server with PHP 8.4.1 recommended.

  • Required PHP extensions enabled
  • Write permissions for settings, schedules, logs, or data
  • Outbound TCP access to HyperDeck control ports
  • Network routing to every HyperDeck
  • Appropriate authentication and network restrictions
Normal public shared hosting usually cannot reach recorders on a private LAN. Do not expose the Dashboard or recorders directly to the public internet.
Local Server Environment

Need a Local Web Server?

MAMP provides Apache, Nginx, PHP, and MySQL for macOS and Windows. Standard MAMP is sufficient for a typical local installation.

Installation Overview

From Download to First Connection

Step 1

Install the Server Environment

Install MAMP on the host Mac or Windows computer, or prepare a compatible PHP web server.

Step 3

Copy the Project

Extract the package and place the folder inside the configured web-server document root.

Step 4

Start the Web Server

Start Apache through MAMP and confirm the local Dashboard address opens in a browser.

Step 5

Add the HyperDecks

Enter each recorder's name, IP address, model, and media configuration. Confirm every device reports online.

Step 6

Test Before Production

Test record, stop, play, timecode, media selection, scheduled start and stop, and the scheduler service with noncritical media.

Questions and Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HyperDeck Dashboard a desktop application?

No. It is a browser-based application that runs from a compatible PHP web server. MAMP is the recommended straightforward local server environment for macOS and Windows.

Does it work on both macOS and Windows?

Yes. The browser interface is cross-platform. The host computer must run MAMP or another compatible PHP-capable server.

Does the browser need to stay open?

The browser must be open for direct operator interaction. Scheduled events can execute without it after the background service is installed and verified. The host computer and server must remain running.

Is MAMP required?

MAMP is recommended, but another compatible PHP web server can be used when it meets the networking, file-permission, and PHP requirements.

Is MAMP PRO required?

No. Standard MAMP should be sufficient for a typical local installation.

Can I install it on public web hosting?

Only when that server has secure network access to the HyperDeck recorders. Normal shared hosting generally cannot reach devices on a private production network.

Can I control it from another computer?

Yes, when the browser device can reach the Dashboard host and the host is configured to accept the connection. Firewall and network settings may need adjustment.

Does it work with every HyperDeck model?

Compatibility and available features vary by model, firmware, media configuration, and Dashboard release. Consult the compatibility notes and test your hardware.

Is this an official Blackmagic Design application?

No. HyperDeck Dashboard is an independent project and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, approved by, or supported by Blackmagic Design.

Is the Release Candidate safe for production?

It should be treated as prerelease software and fully tested with the intended recorders, media, network, host, and scheduler workflow before production use.
